meet: breezy of breezebot punch

i am so happy to share another interview with a fellow oregonian, breezy of breezebot punch! (see the laurs kemp meet for the first.) breezy hails from eugene, a city that has taught me so much. breezy has an etsy where she sells hand-embroidered hoops that she designs herself and they are lovely. we'll hear more about breezy from herself!

what is your background?
totally and completely self taught. i love to learn new things, and have always been drawn to crafts of all kinds. i taught myself how to embroider by making a really big piece for my sister for christmas one year. it then became a hobby, and then a business, and now it has become my full-time job!

how did you get started designing & selling?
i took a big huge leap of faith, actually. i quit my job, opened my etsy shop, and hoped for the best! i had been really unhappy with my previous job, it was completely mentally draining, and so i decided to do something that made me happy! i didn't have a long term plan, and i didn't really know where it would take me, or how big it would get. it was probably the scariest thing i've ever done, but by far the most worthwhile.

what influences your style and designs?
every single thing. music lyrics, books, movies, a flower i see while walking. mostly flowers though. i am constantly writing down new design ideas, i probably have hundreds of new ideas that i want to turn into embroidery pieces, just not enough time.

what is your favorite item in your shop?
my "do you suppose she's a wildflower?" hoop. i have always loved that quote, and it was actually my first big design, so it is super special to me.

what are you most looking forward to this year?
i have some really big ideas for my shop that i can't wait to get to this year. i want to start combining embroidery with painting, and i have a few pieces in the works already. i also want to try doing more pieces that people can customize! my husband and i are also getting a dog sometime this summer, and we are super excited about that. we are total dog people, but we've always been held back by where we were living (renting, no backyard, etc.).

what advice would you give to makers who are just getting started?
absolutely do not listen to the people that doubt you. you can do it! it's really hard at first, and scary. sometimes things take time, but i promise, you can do it!
