special greeting card set for brain tumor awareness month
happy may! may is brain tumor awareness month.
i have shared before that childhood cancer & brain tumors are a part of my family's story. when my first son, Lewis, was 10-months-old he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. it turned my world upside-down & marked the start of a very hard chapter for my family.
the day after he got diagnosed with a brain tumor, Lewis is 10 months old
the day after we were discharged from one of our first hospital visits
over the next 4 months, my son had two brain surgeries & two additional surgeries. he had his first brain surgery before he turned 1-year-old! i was dealing with a lot of despair amidst my constant tears. he then started biweekly infusions, which lasted for 1.5 years.
eventually, he had his big brain surgery before he turned 3. it was a successful resection, YAY. a true miracle, something my husband & i never thought would happen - all praise to god. my brave boy has been tumor-free for almost 2 years (on june 5!), we are sooo grateful. he still has to take a lot of medicine (8 pills a day & 1 subq shot) & see a lot of doctors, but we are just so happy to be living without a brain tumor!
with Lewis’ amazing neurosurgeon, our hero!
the day he got discharged! 9 days after surgery, we stayed at the ronald mcdonald house
for brain tumor awareness month this may, my son & i created a special greeting card set with 8 unique designs that we worked on together. Lewis, age 4, painted the card designs, while i wrote phrases that he thought of & paired to his paintings. it was so much fun for us to do together, and he is very proud to have his own greeting cards printed “just like mom”! (cue my happy tears)
painting these cards!
throughout his hard journey, my little boy Lewis was always SO brave & joyful. he inspired me & everyone around with the wonder & happiness he carried, and he still continues to today.
you can read more about Lewis’ story here: KPTV interview, Stanford article, The Atlantic article & his amazing neuorosurgeon Dr. Fernandez-Miranda (Dr. JFM).
i am raising funds this month with the greeting card set we made & some stickers for Raymond A. Wood Foundation, an organization that supports those who have been affected by the type of tumor my son had with research & advocacy. my son would not be doing as well as he is today without those who have gone before us.
this set was made to raise awareness about one of the most complex & rare brain tumors, craniopharyngiomas. these tumors arise from the pituitary stalk, at the center of the skull base, and can cause significant complications with hormones, vision, and cognitive function.
we were lucky to benefit from years of surgical research & doctors researching new drugs. the Raymond A. Wood foundation is doing work to support these doctors & research!
the greeting card set
would you consider purchasing a set of cards in honor of my son being 2 years tumor-free? each set is $40, all profits will go to Raymond A. Wood Foundation. our goal is to sell 100 sets during the month of may! we have a ways to go & we need your help to get there.
join the fight against brain tumors by purchasing a set here.
huge thank you to Announcement Converters for donating all envelopes for the these special greeting cards.
